Using EverTrue Filters

After reviewing EverTrue’s available filters, you can start segmenting constituents based on various criteria, including location, giving patterns, and interactions with ThankView campaigns. Below, we will guide you through these filtering options!

Filtering by: Location

Filtering constituents by where they live and work is not a new concept. However, EverTrue takes location filtering to the next level thanks to our enriched TrueView data. This data helps you capture constituents that meet your location criteria no matter what, even if their database addresses are outdated.

Enriched location filters are found in the General Enrichment Data filter category. They include:

  • Constituent City
  • Constituent Country
  • Constituent Metro Area
  • Constituent State

Let’s take a look at some of these enriched filters in action!

Step 1. Open Filters in the Constituents Tab

To find constituents in a specific city, such as Albany, navigate to your Constituents tab and click on Filters.

Step 2. Select City Location Filters

Next, select one (or layer both!) of your two city location filters:

  1. Location category > City
  2. General Enrichment Data category > Constituent City

💡 Note: We recommend applying both city filters to your segmented search to capture all possible matches!

Step 3. Choose Operator and Add City

Choose the Equals operator option from the second dropdown menu, then search for or select “Albany” from the third dropdown menu.

💡 Note: Use the City filter’s Primary Address Only checkbox to narrow your results to constituents with a primary address tag for the selected city.

Once you’re ready, click Apply Filters to view your narrowed results. You can repeat these steps for the other enriched location filters.

💡 Note: The Constituent Metro Area filter also helps you find everyone in a specific city (like Albany!) without needing extensive zip code knowledge.

Step 4. Open a Constituent Profile for Additional Location Insights

You’ll find a constituent’s location information in a couple of tabs within their constituent profile:

  1. Constituent Info tab: Imported data is found in the Primary Contact Info section.
  2. Enrichment tab: Enriched location data is found in the Summary section. This section will be blank if no data is found for the record.

Filtering by: Map Radius Search

You can quickly perform a radius search while segmenting constituents by location to limit your results to a 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, or 50-mile area. Follow below to learn how!

Step 1. Open Map View in the Constituents Tab

To perform a radius search, navigate to your Constituents tab and click the Map button in the upper-right corner.

Step 2. Select a Location and Set a Radius

A radius can be set around your current map view or a specific pinpoint:

  • Enter an address, city name or even a point of interest (e.g., Starbucks) in the map’s search bar to drop a pin.
  • Click the Radius button near the upper-right corner of the map and select the desired distance.

💡 Note: You must be reasonably zoomed in on the map to use the radius search option without dropping a pin.

Step 3. Apply Additional Filters to Your Search

After setting the radius, it appears on your search as an additional filter and search results narrow to only constituents with addresses in that radius.

To apply specific address types (e.g., Home, Work) to your search, click the Filter button on the map and select the appropriate options.

Because the radius search acts as an additional filter, you can switch back to the table view by clicking Table in the upper-right corner and further analyze the search results and save your search.  If you want to see how other customers are using the map feature, check out our map view use case resource

💡 Note: Radius search is only available in the Constituents tab map view. It is not available in Lists or Trips & Meetings maps.

Filtering by: Giving Pattern

EverTrue makes it easy to determine who your lapsed donors are! Our Giving Pattern filter automatically tags constituent records based on their donation history with one of four giving patterns:

  1. LYBUNT: Gave last year but not this year.
  2. SYBUNT: Gave a few years ago but not last year or this year.
  3. Current Year Donor: Gave during the current fiscal year.
  4. Non-Donor: Never made a gift.

Let’s see how to find a constituent’s giving pattern and review how each pattern is calculated!

Step 1. Open Filters in the Constituents Tab

To find constituents matching a specific giving pattern, navigate to your Constituents tab and click on Filters

Step 2. Select the Giving Pattern Filter

Next, select the Giving Pattern filter and click the Select Options… dropdown to choose a pattern type.

Once you’re ready, click Apply Filters to view your narrowed results.

Step 3. Open a Constituent Profile’s Summary Tab

You can also find a constituent’s’ giving pattern in their profile’s Summary tab. Head to this tab, and look under Last Gift to see their Giving Pattern label.

Step 4. Review Giving Pattern Calculations

EverTrue relies on the accuracy of your imported data to calculate a constituent’s giving pattern. We use the Last Gift Date field and your fiscal year cycle to determine the status a record should receive:

  • LYBUNT: Last gift date within one previous year from the fiscal year start date.
  • SYBUNT: Last gift date prior to one previous year from the fiscal year start date.
  • Current Year Donor: Last gift date after the fiscal year start date.
  • Non-Donor: No last gift date.

Filtering by: Custom ThankView Interaction Fields

If you are a ThankView user, you can use the Interactions: Custom Fields category to dig into how ThankView campaign results relate to other constituent data such as giving patterns, wealth, and assignment status. The custom interaction fields created during your ThankView integration setup are available as filters in this category.

💡 Note: If you don’t see a custom field that you expect to see available as a filter, please reach out to genius@evertrue.com.

Let’s take a look at how to use these filters to identify engaged constituents!

Step 1. Open Filters in the Constituents Tab

To find constituents who watched more than 50% of a ThankView but haven’t donated, navigate to your Constituents tab and click on Filters

Step 2. Select the ThankView Interaction Filter

Next, select the ThankView - Watched 50% filter and choose the Yes operator.

Step 3. Add the Donor Filter

Click Add another filter and select the Donor? filter. Choose No for this filter’s operator.

Once you’re ready, click Apply Filters to view your narrowed results.
