What is Signal Video Powered by ThankView?

Signal Video Powered by ThankView makes it easy to create and share personalized video messages directly within the Signal platform—no extra logins or tools required! Powered by the same technology behind ThankView’s 1:1 Video feature, Signal Video helps you deliver dynamic outreach that stands out.

With this feature, you can seamlessly add video to any email you send from Signal. Whether you’re encouraging someone to book a meeting, make a donation via an online giving link, or take another meaningful action, Signal Video makes it simple.

You can access Signal Video anywhere you can send email in the platform:

Below, we walk you through how to use Signal Video in a constituent profile to record or upload a video. Let’s dive in!

💡 Note: For the rest of this article, we’ll refer to the feature simply as Signal Video.

Recording a New Video

Step 1. Open an Email Composer

To access Signal Video, open a constituent profile and click the Email button in the upper-right corner.

Step 2. Click Signal Video and Select Record New Video

Next, click the Video button in the bottom-right of the email composer. Three options will appear:

  1. Record New Video: Use your webcam to create a fresh, personalized video.
  2. Video Library: Select a previously-recorded or uploaded video from your library.
  3. Upload Video: Upload a video file from your computer.

Select the Record New Video option.

Step 3. Choose your Signal Video Settings

When you use Signal Video for the first time, a Your Settings popup will appear for you to establish default settings for your videos. These settings include your landing page logo and call-to-action (CTA) button.

  • Customize Landing Page Settings: Turn on the Show Logo on Landing Page toggle and upload your organization’s logo to appear on the video’s landing page. Supported formats include jpg, png, svg, and maximum file size is 5MB.
  • Customize Call-to-Action Button Settings: Turn on the CTA Button toggle so that it’s visible on your landing page, and add the button’s text (e.g., “Meet with Me!”) and URL (must start with https://). Lastly, turn on the Show Button in Email toggle if you also want the CTA button visible in your email.

Once your preferences are set, click Next to save them. These settings will apply to all videos you create, but you can change them at a later time if needed.

Step 4. Enable Webcam and Check Video Settings

Now that your default settings are established, the Record New Video popup displays a recording box. Click Enable Webcam in the bottom-right corner of this box and prepare for your video.

💡 Note: Depending on your browser settings, you may encounter a prompt to grant Signal access to your camera and microphone. This permission is usually requested the first time you record.

In the upper-right corner, there are three tools to help you create a great recording:

  1. Settings Gear: Adjust the resolution of your video. The default resolution is 1920p.
  2. Microphone: Select your preferred microphone. This could be your computer’s built-in microphone or an external mic.
  3. Camera: Choose your preferred camera. This option is helpful if you plan to record with an external webcam.

Step 5. Add Script Overlay (Optional)

You also have the option to add a script that will appear as an overlay on the recording screen for teleprompter-style recording! To use this feature, click Show Script in the bottom-left of the recording area and type or paste your script into the text box.

Use the resize handle at the bottom-right corner of the text box to adjust its size and position. If your script exceeds the viewable space in the text box, you can scroll through the box while recording so you don’t miss a beat.

💡 Note: Your script is temporarily saved to the recording session. If you open a different profile or refresh the page, the script will need to be re-entered.

Step 6. Record Video

When you’re ready, click Start Recording in the bottom-right of the recording area and begin after a brief countdown. If needed, use the Start Over button to redo your video. Click Stop Recording to finish.

💡 Note: Signal Video recordings have a five-minute limit.

Immediately after recording, a Processing Video message will appear. Processing time varies depending on the video’s length. You can click Close Window to continue drafting your email, and the recording will process in the background. When it finishes, you will receive a notification in the upper-right corner of your screen, and the video will appear in your Video Library.

Step 7. Edit Recording and Finalize Details

When processing completes, you can edit the recording and finalize the video’s details in the Review Video popup.

In-app editing tools include:

Video details to finalize include:

  • Title your video: Give your video a relevant title for easy identification in your Video Library. Titles default to “Untitled [Recording Number]” before editing.
  • Change individual video settings: Click the settings gear button to expand the video’s settings. Your default settings will be in place, but you can adjust them for this specific recording. You will also see an Animated Thumbnail toggle (turned on by default), which includes an animated .gif preview of the first three seconds of your video in the email. All changes are saved automatically.
  • Play your video: Preview your video by clicking the blue Play button in the middle of the recording box.
  • Open your Video Library: Click the Video Library button to replace the video with an existing video.
  • Record a new video: Click New Video to redo the recording or record another video for future use. Your current video will still save to the Video Library.

💡 Note: If you want to update your default settings for all future videos, check out our Setting Signal Video Defaults article!

Step 8. Share Your Video

Once you finalize the video’s details, you’re ready to share it! Click Copy Video at the bottom-right of the recording box to copy the video link and return to your email composer. Paste the link directly into the email. The video thumbnail will generate automatically.

Make any additional email edits you’d like before sending the video to your constituent.

Step 9. Add an Interaction

After sending the video, an Add Interaction form tied to the constituent appears with some fields already populated:

  • Date: Defaults to the current date.
  • Solicitors: Defaults to the user who sent the email.
  • Summary: Defaults to the email’s subject line. If no subject was included, the summary defaults to “Sent Email to [Constituent’s Name].”
  • Description: Defaults to the email body and includes a link to your video’s landing page.

Edit any fields and fill in missing details as needed. Click Save to add the interaction, or click Skip If you prefer not to log it.

Uploading a Video

Step 1. Open an Email Composer

Open a constituent profile and click the Email button in the upper-right corner.

Step 2. Click Signal Video and Select Upload Video

Next, click the Video button in the bottom-right of the email composer and select Upload Video.

Step 3. Choose a Video to Upload

Select a video file from your desktop to upload to Signal Video. Files must fit the following parameters:

  • Supported formats: .mov, .avi, .mp4
  • Maximum file size: 2 GB

Immediately upon uploading, the Processing Video message will appear. You can exit the window during video processing, and your video will continue to process in the background and will be added to your Video Library

Step 4. Finalize Your Video Details

Once processing is complete, navigate to your Video Library to open the video. From here, return to Recording a New Video, Step 7 to learn how to finalize the video and share it with the constituent!
