Alumni Community Playbook (Chapter 2): Tips and Talking Points for Switching Over to (or Adding) the EverTrue Community

Why this switch is happening…

  • EverTrue’s Alumni Community is the best directory on the market. It’s intuitive and easy to use, offers powerful search features, and is delightfully mobile-friendly.
  • EverTrue also has an exclusive partnership with LinkedIn, which combines the power of the world’s largest professional networking site with the information contained in our current alumni directory. EverTrue matches records from the school’s database to corresponding profiles on LinkedIn, and delivers this updated career and location information within search results. This combination means Community users have access to the most current information available, as alumni are more likely to update information on LinkedIn before their alumni record.Search results containing dynamic information from LinkedIn paired with the static information in our database deliver the best possible networking experience for our alumni. It can also help us with internal data hygiene by allowing us to ask alumni for new contact and career information when we see, via LinkedIn, that they’ve moved or changed roles.

If you already have the Alumni Community App on iOS and Android and are adding Alumni Community Web…

Get users excited by showcasing the added value of the Alumni Community.
  • It’s a better network thanks to enhanced career and location information via LinkedIn.
  • Find and connect with career mentors in your industry or city.
  • The search features are mobile-friendly and easy-to-use.
  • It compatible with every device via Alumni Community Web and includes best-in-class apps on iOS and Android devices.
Let alumni know how to sign in to the directory.
  • Existing app users will already have access to the web version. They can sign in by using the same password they use for the app or using their LinkedIn profiles.
  • New users will have to walk through a simple one-time sign-up process to gain access.

If you’re going to add Alumni Community Web to a suite of tools for alumni and keep your existing online directory…

It could get a little confusing to your users, since you’ll be running two separate online directories at the same time, so we recommend switching fully to EverTrue’s web and app platforms. Not only is Alumni Community far more searchable and mobile-friendly than other web-only directories, the enhanced profile information from LinkedIn makes this the most powerful alumni networking tool out there.

If you still want to retain an existing, web-based directory, there are a number of ways you can use Alumni Community Web and try to avoid confusion:
  • If you want to keep your old directory and also use Alumni Community Web, you can promote the web-version of the EverTrue directory as a “web app” that works on any device for users who want to see the directory in their mobile or tablet browsers or use a non-iOS or Android device.
  • Position Alumni Community Web as a mentoring/networking platform for alumni. With the mentorship features and LinkedIn data, this is an especially useful tool for alumni who are new to a city, want to progress in their career, or looking for connections within their respective industry.
  • Use Alumni Community Web as an internal, user-friendly search tool for advancement staff. It’s like accessing your database for contact information, only it’s easy-to-use, accessible on any device, and contains career data that’s not in your records.
